Buying a Used bootmod3 Licence: What to Check | Authorised UK Dealer

A lower price only helps if the licence is usable.

VIMOTU guide · Updated October 2026

A used bootmod3 licence can look attractive, but compare the complete route to a working setup before paying. Establish who is selling it, whether it can be transferred, whether it suits your vehicle and what you will need afterwards.

This guide is a buyer’s checklist. For the actual app procedure, use our bootmod3 licence-transfer guide alongside the manufacturer’s current instructions.

Understand what the seller is offering

Ask the seller to separate the base licence from maps, an OTS Maps Bundle, custom tuning and any adapter. A description such as “full package” does not tell you which items can actually move to your account. Have each claimed inclusion written down before discussing its value.

The manufacturer states that the seller’s paid OTS Bundle, individual OTS maps and custom maps do not transfer. Treat a seller’s impressive list of map purchases as information about their former setup, not automatically as extras you receive. Transfer policy.

Likewise, a photograph of an adapter is evidence of a piece of hardware, not of a software entitlement. If hardware is included, ask for its exact model, condition, supplied cables and delivery arrangements. Check it against the current connection requirements for your intended phone or computer.

Check seller eligibility before discussing payment

Current bootmod3 guidance permits a single transfer by the original purchaser. A licence that the seller obtained through a previous transfer is not eligible for another onward transfer. Confirm this history explicitly; “I have used it on only one car” does not answer how they acquired it. Manufacturer FAQ.

  • Ask how it was bought. Was this a new licence purchased by this seller, or a used licence received from somebody else?
  • Ask for relevant purchase evidence. The seller can conceal unrelated personal or payment information. Check that their account of the purchase is consistent with the evidence.
  • Ask about the original car. Is it still available, and has the required bootmod3 uninstall actually completed?
  • Clarify unresolved account issues. If the seller cannot sign in, cannot find the transfer function or says support must release it later, resolve that before treating the transaction as ready.
  • Keep the discussion in writing. Save the agreed item description and the seller’s answers rather than relying only on a call.

These checks reduce uncertainty; a screenshot or receipt by itself is not a guarantee of authenticity or a successful transfer. Do not buy solely because an advert is urgent or because the seller says everyone transfers licences this way.

Check your own vehicle, not just the seller’s car

There are two separate questions: does bootmod3 support my vehicle and current software? and can this particular licence be transferred to it? A positive answer to one should not be used as a substitute for the other.

Prepare the exact model, year, engine and full VIN. Where needed, use the manufacturer app’s vehicle/software checks and obtain advice about unlock requirements. The current user manual explains software identification and support checks. An engine badge on its own cannot establish every DME or software requirement.

If the donor licence is for a different engine or platform, get confirmation from bootmod3 for that specific combination. Do not rely on a marketplace statement that equal-price licences can always be exchanged. Confirm any licence-category restrictions or additional costs before agreeing a price.

Useful enquiry to manufacturer support

I am considering a used bootmod3 licence originally purchased for [vehicle/licence category]. My car is [model, year, engine], VIN [send privately]. Please confirm whether that exact licence can transfer to my VIN, what paid-map credit or access I would receive, and whether there are any additional licence or unlock requirements.

The compatibility of the recipient car does not settle the seller’s uninstall status. Equally, a fully prepared seller does not make an unsupported recipient vehicle suitable. Check both ends before arranging completion.

Compare the complete cost with buying new

Use the current prices for the exact product and the extras you need. Do not compare a used base licence with a new bundle that contains different items, or treat accessories you already own as a new cost on only one side of the comparison.

Cost or consideration What to check
Licence price The total you will actually pay, including any applicable charges shown before purchase.
Maps Confirm your intended map and the recipient’s actual credits. Add the cost of any separate map or OTS Bundle you choose to buy.
Connection hardware Count an adapter or cables only if you need them, and check exact compatibility.
DME unlock Confirm whether your car needs one and obtain a vehicle-specific quote. A used licence is not proof that the unlock is included.
Practical assistance If you need help connecting or flashing, obtain the actual service scope and quote separately.
Support and seller terms Compare who supplies the purchase, what support they offer and the applicable transaction terms.
Future plans A used licence received by transfer does not have another onward transfer under the current policy. Consider this if you expect to change cars.

A straightforward calculation is: licence + required maps + required hardware + any required unlock or assistance = your expected setup cost. Keep uncertain costs marked as unknown until confirmed. A low advertised licence price does not resolve those unknowns.

The manufacturer’s OTS Bundle page describes a paid OTS selection with a normal new software purchase. It does not explicitly confirm a fresh paid-map credit for a transferred used licence. Ask before purchase; this guide does not promise that credit or assume that every buyer must buy the full bundle.

The sensible choice depends on the verified used offer and the current new product available for your car.

Agree how the transaction will work

Before money changes hands, agree the item, price, recipient details, transfer readiness and what happens if eligibility cannot be confirmed. Use payment arrangements whose terms fit the transaction. Do not assume every payment provider covers software licence sales, and do not describe any method as a guaranteed refund route.

A clear arrangement separates the seller’s preparation from your own checks after receipt. Ask the seller to tell you when the manufacturer’s required uninstall is complete. Confirm that you will inspect your own account after the transfer and that any mismatch will be raised promptly through official support.

Only exchange information necessary for the transaction. Send your full VIN and account email privately. Neither a seller nor a helper needs your password or one-time login code to enter your email in a transfer form. Decline requests to buy the seller’s entire login as a substitute for the official licence process.

When the seller has already sold the car

Ask whether the required uninstall happened before sale. If it did not, do not pay based on a promise that a dealer can simply remove the old VIN. The manufacturer’s software terms do not provide a manual release when the original vehicle or DME cannot be recovered or returned to stock. Let the seller resolve the actual eligibility question first.

Check the receiving account before treating the job as finished

  1. Use your own intended login. Check that you are in the account whose email was supplied, especially if you use a social sign-in option.
  2. Check the vehicle and entitlement. Follow any bootmod3 registration or activation prompts, then check the licence and expected VIN in your own account. If something is absent or incorrect, capture what you see.
  3. Review map access. Confirm what is actually available and any additional purchase needed for the map you intend to use.
  4. Prepare separately for flashing. Follow current equipment, vehicle, fuel, hardware and unlock requirements. Receipt of a licence is not confirmation that every map is suitable.
  5. Retain the record. Keep the seller’s details, agreed description and completion information in case manufacturer support needs them.

The manufacturer describes a completed transfer as irreversible and not eligible for a further transfer. If the wrong email or VIN was used, contact bootmod3 support promptly rather than assuming you can send it back and start again. Current user manual.

You do not need to attempt an immediate flash merely to settle a dispute about whether an account transfer arrived. First establish the account and licence position; then perform vehicle work under the appropriate instructions when prepared.

Buying a car that is already tuned is a separate case

A car can have a calibration installed while the licence remains associated with the previous owner’s account. “It has bootmod3” is therefore not enough to establish that you can manage its maps, carry out future changes or sell the licence later.

Before purchasing the car, ask the owner to identify the tuning platform, who controls its account, the map currently installed, relevant hardware changes and any DME unlock history. Ask bootmod3 to confirm the appropriate same-VIN ownership route, especially if the licence itself was previously transferred.

Do not assume changing the registration plate creates a new licence entitlement, or that taking over an email account is the approved ownership process. Keep account access, vehicle condition and the seller’s description as separate checks.

If you already own the car and the previous owner is unavailable, explain that clearly to manufacturer support. Do not buy another used licence as a guessed solution to an account or DME problem before finding out what the actual requirements are.

Questions you can copy and send to a seller

Hi, I am interested in the bootmod3 licence. Before proceeding, please confirm:

  1. Did you buy the licence new as the original purchaser, or receive it through a previous transfer?
  2. What vehicle/licence category was it purchased for?
  3. Has the required stock flash and DME relock through bootmod3 completed successfully, and is the transfer option available?
  4. If preparation is not complete, do you still have access to the original vehicle?
  5. What exactly is included in the agreed price? Please list any physical adapter separately.
  6. Can you provide relevant original purchase evidence with unrelated personal details removed?
  7. Can we confirm eligibility for my vehicle with bootmod3 before completing the transaction?

I understand that your paid maps and OTS Bundle do not transfer with the licence. I will provide my recipient email and VIN privately once the details are confirmed.

When to proceed, pause or choose a new licence

Position Sensible next step
Eligibility, original-car uninstall, target VIN and costs are all clear Compare the complete used offer with a new purchase, then decide using the agreed transaction terms.
A material point is still unknown Pause. Get the specific answer from the seller or bootmod3 rather than treating an assumption as included.
Seller bought it used, cannot complete the required uninstall or proposes account-password handover Do not proceed as though this were a verified standard licence transfer.
You prefer a new purchase or the used saving is small after extras Choose the correct new licence and check its current included maps, hardware and unlock requirements before ordering.
