VIMOTU guide · Updated October 2026
A bootmod3 transfer needs preparation on the original car as well as the correct details for the receiving account. This guide explains what to check, the manufacturer’s normal transfer sequence and the situations where you should stop and ask for help.
Before you agree a sale: establish that the licence is eligible, that the original vehicle can complete the required uninstall and that the receiving vehicle is suitable. Do this while you still have access to the car.

First, choose the situation that fits you
| Your situation | What to do first |
|---|---|
| You bought the licence new and want to sell it | Check transfer eligibility and complete the required vehicle preparation before promising a buyer it is ready. |
| You want to move your licence to your next car | Confirm that your exact licence can be used for the target VIN. Do not assume the new car’s engine badge or purchase price settles this. |
| You originally bought a transferred licence | Do not advertise it as transferable again. The current rules do not provide another onward transfer. |
| You have already sold the original car | Establish whether the bootmod3 uninstall was completed before handover. Losing access before this step can prevent a transfer. |
| You bought a car that already has bootmod3 tuning | Confirm account ownership and the correct same-VIN ownership process with the previous owner and bootmod3. A tuned car is not proof that the licence is in your account. |
The manufacturer’s current procedure limits transfers to the original purchaser, with one transfer only, after the software is fully uninstalled from the original vehicle. Its current manual also says a completed transfer cannot be reversed or transferred again. See the transfer procedure and current user manual.
Prepare before opening the transfer screen
Understand the different parts
The licence is the software entitlement. A map is the calibration you flash. The DME is the engine control computer. Your account is the login used to manage access. Moving an adapter, removing an app from a phone or passing on a password is not the same operation as transferring the software entitlement.
This distinction matters when someone says a car is “back to stock”. Ask what was actually done. The manufacturer requires its stock-and-relock process through bootmod3; returning a car to stock using another tuning tool is not accepted for this transfer process. Manufacturer FAQ.
Gather the correct details
- Original account: make sure you can sign in to the account associated with the licence and original VIN. Retain the original purchase reference for any support enquiry.
- Receiving account: ask the recipient to confirm the exact email they use for bootmod3. Copy it carefully; do not guess from a marketplace username.
- Receiving vehicle: obtain the full VIN privately and have any licence-category or vehicle-support questions resolved before proceeding.
- Agreement: record what is being sold, any separate hardware, the agreed price and how you will verify completion. Do not describe the seller’s map purchases as included transferable extras.
- Practical access: arrange access to the original car and suitable connection equipment before its sale or collection date. Leave room to resolve an error instead of attempting this during a rushed handover.
Check whether your car needs individual advice
If the DME has had a bench or FEMTO unlock, has been replaced or cloned, or the car has been flashed with another platform, ask bootmod3 and the relevant unlock or tuning provider how to proceed before relocking. The consequences need to be checked for your particular DME and unlock history. Do not assume the existing unlock will remain usable, or that another unlock will definitely be necessary.
Also check the hardware currently fitted to the car. If its modifications rely on a particular calibration, have the tuning provider confirm an appropriate return-to-stock plan. The transfer instructions are not an assessment of whether the car’s mechanical configuration is suitable for its stock calibration.
For the flashing session, use the current bootmod3 setup instructions and user manual for supported equipment, vehicle preparation and power supply requirements.
The normal bootmod3 transfer steps
Use this sequence once eligibility and any vehicle-specific concerns above are resolved. Menu labels may differ slightly between app versions. Follow the current prompts rather than forcing a step when the displayed vehicle or account details do not match.
- Open the original account. In the bootmod3 app, sign in to the account linked to the original vehicle.
- Connect to the original car. Use supported connection equipment and complete the vehicle and power preparation required by the current bootmod3 flashing instructions.
- Prepare the stock file. Open My Maps → Stock Tune and download it.
-
Complete the uninstall. Select Flash → RE-LOCK DME. Wait for the stock flash to complete successfully.

Enter the recipient. Supply their email and full VIN, then read and accept the displayed transfer terms.
Enter the recipient’s correct email and full 17-character VIN. This example shows empty fields with validation messages. Tap the image to enlarge. - Review and confirm. Check every detail on the confirmation screen before completing the transfer. The official guide describes an automatic logout on successful completion.

Before you press the final confirmation: read the email and VIN back against the recipient’s written details. A typo is easier to prevent than resolve. If anything is wrong, stop at this point and correct it.
What the recipient should check afterwards
Follow any bootmod3 registration or activation prompts, then check the licence and expected VIN in your own intended account. Review the actual maps or credits available before planning a flash. If the licence is missing or the vehicle details are wrong, preserve the seller’s completion information and ask manufacturer support to investigate. Do not try to solve an ownership problem by creating several accounts or sharing credentials.
There is no fixed transfer completion time promised in this guide. Check the app’s actual state; an agreed payment, a screenshot of an old purchase or a seller’s statement that they have sent it is not the same as checking your receiving account.
What happens to maps, bundles and the adapter?
| Item | How to treat it in your agreement |
|---|---|
| Base software licence | The item being transferred, subject to the manufacturer’s eligibility and uninstall requirements. |
| Seller’s OTS Maps Bundle, individual paid OTS maps and custom maps | These purchases do not transfer with the licence. Do not add their original cost to the value of transferable extras. |
| Recipient’s map entitlement | Check the receiving licence’s actual available maps and credits. A new-purchase offer does not establish the entitlement on a used transfer. |
| OBD adapter or cable | Separate physical equipment. State explicitly whether it is part of the sale, and check that it suits the recipient’s connection setup. |
The map exclusion is stated in the transfer policy. The OTS Bundle explanation describes new-purchase map access but does not explicitly settle the recipient’s paid-map credit after a used transfer. Confirm that point with bootmod3 before relying on it in the price.
Already sold the car, or selling the licence remotely?
If the uninstall was completed before the car left
Keep the completion details and check the licence’s transfer status in the original account. If the app does not present the expected transfer option, ask manufacturer support to inspect the account and vehicle state. Avoid guessing that a delay or a new login will fix it.
If the car left before the required uninstall
Tell support exactly what happened before agreeing a licence sale. The manufacturer’s terms say licences are released through its automated uninstall and that manual transfers are unavailable when the original vehicle or DME cannot be recovered or returned to stock. Any exceptional review is discretionary, so a dealer or buyer should not promise to bypass this requirement. Software licence terms.
If the new vehicle owner is willing to help, ask bootmod3 for the correct process for that situation. Do not instruct an unfamiliar owner to relock or change a modified car without confirming the vehicle-specific implications first.
What “remote transfer” actually means
The transfer form uses account and vehicle details, so passing those details between seller and buyer does not itself require an in-person meeting. That does not remove the original car’s connected uninstall or the recipient’s own vehicle checks and setup. This distinction follows from the manufacturer’s separate transfer and vehicle connection instructions; it is not a promise of a remote flashing service.
Keep account passwords, verification codes and recovery codes private. A legitimate discussion about the recipient email and VIN should not turn into handing over control of the seller’s entire account.
Changing cars and other cases that need confirmation
| Question | What to confirm before committing |
|---|---|
| Can I use the same email for my next car? | Ask for the correct account route for your current licence and new VIN. Do not create a second account simply because a forum post recommends it. |
| Can a B48 licence go to a B58, N55, S55 or another platform? | Ask whether the exact donor licence is eligible for the target VIN, including any category restriction or additional cost. Equal retail prices are not proof of interchangeability. |
| I am selling the same car with its tune | Ask for the supported same-VIN ownership process, including transfer history and map access. Do not assume an unchanged VIN makes account handover automatic. |
| I have an unused activation code | Ask the supplying retailer or bootmod3 about that unactivated purchase. This guide covers an activated licence and does not establish reassignment rules for an unused code. |
| Will returning to stock erase the tuning history? | Do not treat a licence-transfer procedure as a warranty-restoration or undetectability guarantee. |
A short written answer about your actual licence and VIN is more useful than a general claim that “all bootmod3 licences work the same”. Describe the intended transaction clearly so support can answer the right question.
If the button is missing or a transfer fails
Do not repeat stock flashes or relock operations just to see whether the button appears. Capture the exact error and check the basic facts first: the signed-in account, the original VIN, the uninstall result and the recipient details. There can be more than one cause, and this guide cannot diagnose the account from the wording of a marketplace advert.
| What you see | Useful information for support |
|---|---|
| Transfer option absent or unavailable | Account login method, original purchase reference, licence transfer history and the original vehicle’s uninstall status. |
| Recipient VIN or account rejected | Exact error, target VIN, recipient email and whether the intended account already has a licence. |
| Stock flash or relock did not complete | App version, error screenshot, connection equipment, DME/unlock history and what the app reports now. Follow manufacturer recovery instructions. |
| Transfer confirmed but recipient cannot see it | Confirmation details, both parties’ account identifiers and intended VIN. Do not send passwords or one-time codes. |
| Wrong details entered or unexpected completion | Contact support promptly with the exact facts. Do not assume the transfer can be reversed. |
Use the official bootmod3 support portal for account and licence investigation. VIMOTU can help with product enquiries and its own orders, but cannot override manufacturer transfer eligibility.

Final checks for seller and recipient
Seller
- Confirm the licence’s eligibility before advertising it.
- Resolve special DME, hardware and target-vehicle questions first.

- Keep the sale description accurate about maps and separate hardware.
Recipient
- Use your own account and verified vehicle details.
- Confirm the particular licence can be accepted for your vehicle.
- Budget for any maps, hardware, unlock or assistance you actually need.
- Check the receiving account after transfer instead of relying only on the seller’s screenshot.
- Keep the transaction record and direct account errors to bootmod3 support.
